on the Hill for more than 50 years!
A scoop of Maine
Tradition.
For more than 50 summers, ice cream has been served in the village of New Harbor — just minutes from Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and Pemaquid Beach. It started with soft serve on the Hill, and over the years grew into the Gifford's hard ice cream stand locals and visitors know today. Harbor Ice Cream has become the hub of the hill each summer — where beach days end, lighthouse trips pause for a cone, and generations gather for a sweet taste of the Maine coast.
Our Story
The official Hub of New Harbor Hill!
For more than 50 years, Harbor Ice Cream has been the sweet spot of summer on the hill. It all started with Tom’s Dairy Whip and a simple idea—serve great ice cream and give people a place to gather. When Bea Chase opened Harbor Ice Cream, that tradition carried on, growing into something truly special.
Over the years, it’s become a place where flip-flops line up at the window, kids can’t decide between chocolate or vanilla, and everyone somehow leaves with a cone and a smile. Families return summer after summer, friends reconnect, and vacation memories are made one scoop at a time.
Some things change… but a good cone on a warm night by the coast? That never goes out of style. 🍦🌊
